Bhaskar Bhat, MD, Titan Industries Ltd ranked as the 4th Best CEO in India in BT-INSEAD-HBR study
This first-ever ranking of Indian CEOs, based on the long-term shareholder returns they generate, builds on Morten Hansen, Herminia Ibarra and Urs Peyer's pioneering article in the January 2010 issue of the Harvard Business Review, or HBR, which ranked 1,999 corporate leaders from 1,205 global companies on the shareholder performance they delivered over the course of their tenure.
Business Today, INSEAD and Harvard Business Review collected data on 374 CEOs of 202 publicly traded companies on the Indian stock markets drawn from the S&P CNX 500 since 1998. They analysed the data to see which factors increased the likelihood that an executive would be placed high in the ranking. To this end, they searched for attributes of the CEOs as individuals, characteristics of the companies they led, as well as the features of the broad industry sectors in which their companies participated.
Bhaskar Bhat was ranked 4th behind Naveen Jindal of Jindal Steel and Power, A.M. Naik of Larson and Toubro and Y. C. Deveshwar of ITC and ahead of Sunil Mittal of Airtel and R. Sridhar of Shriram Transport Finance.
